A quasi 2-D localized corrosion model

چکیده
In 1996 Pots has written a two-dimensional (2-D) stochastic algorithm to simulate the morphology of localized attack. The rule based algorithm operates on the assumption that the morphology of corrosion attack depends on the balance of two processes: corrosion (leading to metal loss) and precipitation (leading to metal protection). The rules of the original algorithm were modified to enable simulation of a broader variety of localized corrosion morphologies found in practice. The algorithm, which uses scaling tendency as the only input parameter, was connected with the mechanistic model of CO2 corrosion so that the morphology of localized attack can be predicted as a function of primitive parameters such as temperature, pH, partial pressure of CO2, velocity, etc. Based on the results of the simulations, it was postulated that partially protective films are sufficient to trigger localized attack, which is in agreement with the experimental observations.

A Stochastic Prediction Model of Localized CO2 Corrosion
In this paper a two-dimensional (2-D) stochastic localized CO2 corrosion model is proposed, which describes the balance of two processes: corrosion (leading to metal loss) and precipitation (leading to metal protection). The model is able to predict localized corrosion of carbon steel in CO2 containing environments. The model uses corrosion rate and surface-scaling tendency predicted by a 1-D m...
متن کاملNANO- SCALE LOCALIZED CORROSION STUDIES OFEN AW- 3003ALALLOYBYSEM-EDS, SKPFM AND IN-SITU AFM
Abstract: Localized corrosion of aluminum alloys is often triggered by intermetallic particles, IMP’s. To understandthe role of IMP’s in corrosion initiation of EN AW-3003, efforts were made to combine nano-scale ex-situ analysis ofthe IMP’s by SEM-EDS, SKPFM and in-situ AFM monitoring of the localized attack in chloride containing solution. The results showed that two distinct types of eutectic...
متن کاملInfluence of Silicon, Carbon and Phosphorus on Intergranular Corrosion of High Purity Austenitic Stainless Steels Under Transpassive Conditions
Precipitate-free Fe-Cr-Ni f.c.c. alloys exhibit strong intergranular corrosion in acid solutions at electrochemical potentials from the transpassivity range. Segregation of impurity atoms to grain boundaries is generally considered to be responsible for this specific kind of localized damage. A study of the influence of silicon, phosphon~s and carbon on the intergranular transpassive corrosion ...
متن کاملCorrosion of Metal Films Observed Using In Situ and Ex Situ Electron Microscopy
Localized corrosion refers to the accelerated dissolution of metals and alloys due to the breakdown of their protective passive films at select sites [1]. Developing an understanding of localized corrosion phenomena has significant practical importance due to the deleterious effects of pit formation on the integrity of structural materials. However, localized corrosion is a challenging problem ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Material Strength Deterioration due to Pitting Corrosion
Pitting corrosion is an insidious form of localized corrosion a ecting characteristics of various engineering metallic alloys. Currently very limited literature exists with regard to systematic characterization of pitted surfaces or the efficient use of numerical methods to assess its effect, i.e. fatigue life reduction caused by the state of a corroded specimen and particularly through the stu...
